Photo Study #00165

I got the reference for this gorgeous model Pricilla from www.enigma-fotos.deviantart.com(which I really didn't do any justice to) for study purposes only. I started to rush it towards the end and didn't get the final detail in the face and hair. It is what it is.

Male and Female figure studies (natural nudity warning)

I spend a couple weeks doing figure drawings using photo's from the website www.quickposes.com . I spend my mornings before work about an hour or so doing these for practice, it's helping me a lot to grasp a better understanding of the human form which can be quite complicated.

Gollum movie screenshot study

I wanted to do some studies from movie screenshots to see if I could pick up any tips from more realistic setting. This was the first one I saw on www.cinemasquid.com that caught my eye. I'll probably do a couple more studies like this to see if I can learn a few things about color, light and value in a movie setting.

Orc Warrior because I can

I wanted to do a concept style piece as an excuse to practice the "Blizzard" style. (All rights go to Blizzard entertainment as this is their I.P. Gear design was referenced from one of Glenn Rane's awesome pieces.) Made this with my now old Cintiq 12 which makes callibrating color nearly impossible so if the colors look off that's why.

Fjord Pines (Photoshop CS5)

This was made basically by studying a screenshot that I took in World of Warcraft, The location is in the Howling Fjord. I had a lot of fun with this because I did it fairly loose for me and it didn't take as long because of it.

Practice stuff in Photoshop

I'll say this. It's much harder for me to draw on a tablet than it ever was drawing with a pencil on paper. But I'm trying to learn and get better with digital media.

"Uthers final stand" World of Warcraft fan art

This is my first real set up piece of Photoshop art since I came back from traditional landscape painting. Finding the Crimson Daggers really gave me a ton of motivation to head in the direction of illustration. Since May I've really been working hard on my fundamental skills (anatomy, perspective, color, values, etc, etc) I soon realized though just how out of practice I was for this. There is so much for me to tackle, I'm trying to take on areas that I used to avoid like hands and feet hoping that the more you draw something, the better you'll get, right?
Anyway the piece on the left here was actually for a Blizzcon fan art contest but I sent it in without too high of hopes knowing how many others are out there doing the same thing with much more experience than I have. But there's always next year and if I continue to study who knows how much improvement there will be.
